Made From Scratch, Served With Purpose: Welcome to Rosie's Home Cookin'

Walk into Rosie's Home Cookin' at CityGate Centre and something happens before you've even looked at the menu: The smell of bacon and fresh coffee hits first. Then, take in the retro Americana décor — bright red booths, Norman Rockwell art walls and a warm, welcoming energy that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit.
It's the kind of place that wins Naperville Magazine's Best of Naperville award for Best Breakfast every year since opening its doors — and once you've been, you understand exactly why.

Everything Is Made Here
The menu at Rosie's is unambiguously from scratch, and the range is remarkable. The signature oven-baked dishes alone are worth the trip: Rosie's Big Apple Pancake — fresh Granny Smith apples with a rich cinnamon glaze — and the Puffed German Pancake, served with house-made tart lemon butter, are the kind of items that become the reason people return. The sourdough French toast is dipped in an egg-rich batter with whipping cream and almond extract. Biscuits are handmade and smothered in homemade sausage gravy, available in classic savory or chorizo. Flapjacks are buttermilk and made fresh — plain or loaded with blueberries, bananas, bacon or chocolate chips.
A Restaurant with a Mission
But Rosie's is about more than just good food. It's also about good people and a good cause, supporting Veteran Business Project, a nonprofit organization. The veteran-founded restaurant puts mission at its core, and the sourcing is taken as seriously as the cooking.
The corned beef hash is freshly ground from brisket sourced from Henry J's, a Navy veteran supplier. The private blend coffee — served bottomless — is veteran owned. The grass-fed beef breakfast sausage links are an exclusive Rosie's recipe, rich in Omega-3s and lower in fat than conventional sausage. Avocado sourdough toast is topped with locally grown cilantro microgreens from Garfield Produce. Even the granola is house-made — thick oats, pecans, raisins, cinnamon and nutmeg, toasted in-house.
For guests with dietary needs, gluten-free flapjacks and waffles are made with organic popped amaranth, light and protein-rich. Amy's organic chicken links round out the health-conscious options.
The menu also features Tibetan Coffee, Rosie's take on the ancient butter coffee tradition: the private blend whipped with a dollop of Kerrygold Irish butter from 100% grass-fed cows, producing a rich, silky texture said to provide sustained energy throughout the day.

A Room That Feels Like Home
The retro diner setting is bright, warm and thoughtfully designed. The coin-operated horse ride, the Norman Rockwell paintings and the Missing Man Table — a single place setting honoring American prisoners of war and service members missing in action — give the room a character that goes beyond décor. It honors the men and women who served.
Lynn Lowder, the Vietnam Marine veteran who founded Rosie's, is known for introducing himself to guests and checking back in, giving that at-home vibe. Reviewers consistently note that the staff greets them as if they've been coming for years, even on a first visit.
A Meal That Means Something More
The food is why people come. The mission is why they feel good about it. Rosie's was created by Lowder and entrepreneur Dale Eisenberg as a sustainable source of support for Veteran Business Project, a national nonprofit dedicated to reversing a troubling trend: after World War II, nearly 50% of veterans started their own businesses. Today that number has fallen to roughly 5-7%. With 100% of profits supporting VBP, every breakfast ordered at Rosie's is part of something larger.
Open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving breakfast all day. The Best Breakfast recognition from Naperville Magazine every year since opening isn't a surprise. It's the natural result of doing things right.
Rosie's would welcome your support to keep up its winning streak with this year's Best of Naperville awards, Best Breakfast category. It's among 19 Best of Naperville categories you can find at CityGate Centre.
